Question

Hi All,

I have an 89 Mariner 25hp tiller but the electric start has gone. It just clicks when I press the starter. No cranking at all. I've been just pulling the cord to get by, but I would like to get this fixed long-term. I am ashamed to say it, but I am not much of a mechanical guy, so I'm looking for a place that will help me out and not charge me an arm and a leg. I'd like to know how much it'll take to fix it, 'cause it may just not be worth it to me. I have no problem pulling the cord if I have to, but I bought an electric start motor, so it should act like one, darnit. Anyway, are there suggestions for reputable places that can help me? (I live in Lakeville, by the way.)

Thanks!

John

I really don't know, I don't deal with parts like that. I would say $ 100 or more. Try Twin City outboards to see how much it costs, if not too bad, you can buy there and take my offer.

Otherwise any electic motor shop should be able to rebuild it.

I know one that it's cheap, but it's in Faribault, name is Temple Electric.

look up ebasic power on the internet. Aftermarket starter is around 120 dollars. First make sure all conncections to the starter, starter solinoid and battery are shiny clean and tight. Even a loose ground will give you the symptoms you are experiencing.
