Dead Minnkota Endura 50

Ufatz

Question

Endura 50 is two years old. Maybe 20 hours of use. Put it on a little boat today and it is as DEAD as King Tut. Or Elvis. Or Frank N.Stein.

Can't find my manual of course. Removed handle and all connections are sound and tight and clean. Only other place there can be a problem is in the motor itself. Anybody got a quick idea for the weekend? I'll call my pals at Minnkota on Monday. They are always very helpful. At this point not only do I NOT know how to get into the motor itself, I am NOT inclined to do so.

Hopefully you have had it 'almost' 2 years! Isn't that the warranty time? Is for my maxxum and it saved me twice now. First a board went out.. then the lower unit ground to a halt. Have (had?) a lemon.

I had the same problem on my motor this weekend and the problem was dirt and little broken plastic pieces in the on/off switch I took the switch off and cleaned the brass fittings with electrical cleaner and now its all good

Correct me if I am mistaken, but the Endura series is the same one that can be purchased at Wal-Mart, right?

For some reason, these units seem to be cheap.

Don't take offense to this; I had one myself.

I have a Maxxum now, and the tilt release lever snapped on it 2 weeks ago. So now it's a pair of vice grips and some tugging.

Quality is hard to find.

Seeing that you are from Dalton, there is a repair shop for MinnKota Motors in Ottertail. It's located in the little laundry mat between The Local and the Car Wash. Call Pete at 367-3927 or 367-2446. He has an authorized service center for Minnkotas.

Thanks for info on Pete's. I'm on my way. The Minnkota tech guys gave me his address too. For others who have the problem the tech folks say it was probably a seal failure at the prop due to line being wrapped into it. This allowed water into motor head. I think they are right. I totally dismantled the motor and it HAS rust and dump in the motor itself. Pete can fix it I'm sure.

I guess the best advice is keep the line out of the trolling motor. I'm not sure thats what happened, but there has definetly been a breach of the seal somplace.
