Portable Depth Finder?

lawman

Question

I have a "Color Point" flasher unit that I use for ice fishing. Can I convert this to open water use? A couple of us are planning on a Canadian trip and they want $60 to rent a depth finder for a week. Are there kits for this? Will they work when the boat is moving?

I have a portable one from Cabellas that works well. I have seen guys create small wooden boxes and screw their flashers on top, then put the battery on the inside.

However...If this is a fly in, and the weight will be counted against you...I may just pay the $60 and have it up there and ready to go for you. No hassels, just $60 (especially if you split the cost).

Good luck

I know its nice to bring equipment that you already know how to use, but at $60 for the week I think you can't go wrong. I've done the canada thing with and without finders and they are definately worth it. FOr the cost of the trip $60 can't be that much in comparison.
