lets talk dirty water, little to no green weeds where to fish?

It seems like alot of the lakes around here this year are dirty and little to no healthy weed growth. Which has changed the fishing in those lakes do to spraying. With that challenge where to find the concentrated fish. Or are they just scattered more. What type of lures and colors do you guys like to start with in these situations. What do you think.

Several of the lakes I fish regularly are like the ones you described. I like to fish docks on any water but I find these types of lakes seem to have a more consistant dock bite. I also target the sharp breaks with success on these types of waters. Other locations I fish are any available pads/slop or rock piles. If you spend enough time on the water you can usually still find some decent green weed beds. Those weeds would probably pay off if you fished them long enough.

These fish will still relate to something.. if there are no weeds, as staed Docks, Slop, wood, ect are going to hold fish. Some drop offs as well... HOWEVER, You wil hit the mother load of fish if you can find rocks on a drop off. For some reason, in dirty water, that is the ticket!

If you dont want fish the obvious cover try to find a map and look for the first decent sized break just off the shallow areas that produce then fish these areas with jig and pigs or carolina rigs with large worms up to 10".

If you dont have a map just troll back and fourth in an area keeping your eye on the locator. Dont look just for fish pay attention to bottom content and and depth and any place a point or inside turn is located. Try to build up a mentle image on the bottom.

How about lures some of the ones I like to start with is a crankbait on those weedless areas such as breaks, inside turns. If those don't work I try plastics that smell and give off some good vibration. How about you guys.

Rippinlips: From your post it looks like your in the Lakeville area. I don't know which lakes your talking about or just how dirty they are. I have a couple of lakes in my area that are less than 600 acres and a white jig disappears 4" down. The weed line is non-existant and you can find isolated clumps of weeds. The max. depth is 16 feet, both lakes have water (small rivers) flowing into and out of them. I routinely take 5 pound plus bass from both lakes and have had multiple 5's on most trips. I don't fish the docks, but fish shallow rocks if its a rock in more than 6" of water I will be tossing a crank or jig on it. Also any wood, of any size, from sticks only as round as your thumb to trees in the water will hold fish. Both lakes are so dirty that most people will not even put their rigs in them smile.gif And if Deitz ever finds a free day, I will show him what some really big bass look like grin.gif

I don't want to put words on your monitor, but.

I don't believe rippinlips is referring to your average pea soup lakes. Yes, lakes that are always dark will hold fish by the docks. But I believe he is referring to lakes that may normally have 6 or 7 foot clarity, but this year they have 3 or 4 foot clarity. The weedlines still grow deep (14ft or so) but they are sparse and not well defined.

This is the problem I have been running into this year. The water is so hot the fish are not by the docks or not biting (skipped plastics). I have had a FEW good weedline bites, but they are hard to find. Since I am not used to fishing deep and typically only get out once a week for 4 hours, on a different lake each week, it has been hard to pattern the fish.

I've fished Round twice in the past 2 years. I don't bother with it now, unless we are ice fishing. Crooked right across the road had much better bass fishing. People keep telling me about the great crappie fishing on Round, I have yet to find a big school of crappies on that lake.

Fished a dirty (1ft) lake last night. I caught 15 and my partner I think 17. All but 2 came from under the docks. Some docks had 2 bass some even 3 under there. the Fish held a nice average 13.5 to 16.

The sandier docks I did better with a weighted flutter hook senko (blue-black swirl). While my friend did better with a weight-less senko (white w/silver fleck) near the weedier docks.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
