Just got a new honda 40hp 4 stroke that is carber. The manual says either 87 or 89. DOes it matter which octane?? Thanks

I dont think so but I would treat the fuel with sea foam or sabil the gas now days is realy bad

I run 87 in my 100 hp 4 stroke and just add ring free and fuel stabilizer.

I have a 18 hp 4 stroke nissan they say you can run 89 but recomend 91 and thats what I use.

The only gas I will ever use in the lawnmower, atv or boat, is 91% octane non-oxygenated gas. The manuals all say not to use oxygenated fuels, and most gas stations will have

Non-oxygenated gas in the super unleaded pump but it is 91%.

I have ran regular unleaded in all my motors, never had an issue. I would think if its newer it would be built to run on newer fuels. I could be wrong...I ran around town looking for the dump at one point and gave up because it didn't make much of a diff...My two cents

Side note...all my motors were probably designed for leaded, haha

Im firm believer in SeaFoam ,,,I use it as a slabilizer in my Harleys and my outboard as well as my 2 cycle gas toys and tools ,,but running non oxygenated 91 octane is what I use in the summer months for in My boat,,starts better and no shivering while trolling ,,but thats just my experience
