Humminbird 500 Series Fishfinders

Hi,

I am looking at buying a 500 series Humminbird.....looking at the model number 535 specifically. I don't want a color model.

Any comments or concerns from anyone that has seen or used one?

I have a small 14' Lund and don't typically fish over 60 FOW and don't use downriggers or planner boards. I go up to Canada with it once a year, and up there I rarely fish up there more than 40 FOW.

Good luck BJI. If you dig around a little on the forums, you'll see the consensus here is Lowrance units. If it's any help, I bought the 935 this year and I love it! Humminbird has come a long way in the past couple of years. They had a bad rap in the past, and it's going to take a while for them to shake it.

I have a 535 in my boat, going on 3 years with the unit now and haven't had any trouble at all. The options are plenty if your not concerned with having all the bells and whistles. I was looking at getting a "better" unit this year, but decided not to yet because I've been more than happy with mine thus far. You'll like it, I don't see why you would be dissapointed and the "Quick-Release" is nice to have.

I'm sure in the next couple of years I'll move to a good color unit, but for now this works just fine.

I bought a 565 3 years ago and can tell you it does everything I need it to and has NEVER given me any problems.It may not be a Lowrance and I'am not knocking them at all but this unit is very good.
