Merc 115 low oil alarm

My low oil alarm started beeping the last time I was out. I drove another 5 minutes before I got to the dock and added oil. The alarm wouldn't reset when I shut off the motor and continues to beep. The resevoir is full, I have shut off/turned on the motor multiple times. I have disconnected the battery and retried. Is there a manual reset somewhere? I am leaving on a trip in 3 days and don't have time to bring it in. It's a 1997 Mercury 115 2 stroke. Never had any problems before.

No manual reset that I know of. I think the temp alarm operates on the same beeper.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a minute or two?

If you are sure it's the low oil alarm it's probably the oil reservoir sensor if I'm not mistaken it's easier to replace the whole oil reservoir tank.

Good to go, just happened to me last time out. Sensor is gravity fed and gets stuck. Part cost more to replace than whole reservoir. Replace the hole reservoir tank as pierbridge said.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll be unhooking the alarm for the weekend, then taking the tank off. I wonder if the sensor would get unstuck by shaking the tank?

Mine did this on my Yamaha 115 when the tube coming off of the oil reservoir was pinched, also happened another time when it was a bad oil sensor.

It might... you could try taking it apart and seeing if it's hung up.. they're pretty simple.

Is the alarm going off all the time, and are you sure it's a oil alarm and not an overheating alarm?

Yes, its the intermittant beep, not the constant horn. By all the time I mean that it doesn't shut off, not that it is a constant tone.

Sounds like you've got it figured out then.. I'd try taking the sender apart, or at least taping it up higher if that works...
