NAPAFISH
Quote:Yep, I'm not going to pretend to be somebody I'm not, and I'm also not a mindless robot so I suppose that's why I don't understand Jeff......Gor.....don. I dont know if he a robot, but I know when Dale Sr was marketing himself, he wanted to be the workings mans driver. The guy who works in the machine shop, the guy who carries his lunchbox to work. A blue collar driver. Earnhardt drove an un-sponsored under funded car when he started. Has Gordon done this?? Jeff got alot handed to him. When Rick signed him, he was claimed the "Franchise" he got the best crew, the best cars and even one of the best crew chiefs of all time. A little lucky maybe?? He got promoted faster than fellow BGN guys B Labonte and K Wallace who consistently bested him in the BGN ranks. He seems to have gotten preferential treatment. He is just to per say "Hollywood" for me. SNL appearences, Regis and Kathy Lee. Mikey is very similar this way too, albeit the only similairty. I too root for the drivers who seem more down to earth. I also like the character drivers Boris with the big fro, Pudgy Schrader, the drawl of Elliot Sadler, the incomplete sentences of Dale Jr. Whats not to like??? fishinchicks
The great thing about this sport, is when my husband and I can sit and watch the race with our 3 daughters. They all have their own driver to cheer for, whom they have chosen for whatever reason. Our youngest likes Gordon, has stuff all over her room - some of which she ordered through the NASCAR catalog all by herself (she was 11 at the time). I really don't want to list the favorites from the rest of our family, since it does not include Jr or Stewart. The race is being taken too seriously when people boo a driver for winning, and throw trash at their car when they drive by. There is more to life than whether your favorite wins or loses. To me, it is following the respect level of the general population. Dale Sr was respected, but people had more respect for others when he was at his peak. It is now such a "me first" atmosphere, that it gets ugly. You shouldn't have to be afraid to wear your driver's gear to a race, or be afraid of being ridiculed because of your choice. Now that I am done preaching, I have to go set my DVR to record the Pennsylvania 500. I'll be doing my own version of the race tomorrow down I29 coming home.
