which red dot scope

Recommended Posts

I am looking at buying a stoeger m 2000 combo with the cantalever scope mount. We do a lot of drives in Iowa where I hunt, and I was wondering about battery life with these scopes. I am looking at the ATN digital model. I like the heads up display and two eyes open part as well. eventually I will hunt in MN again and when I do it will be stand hunting, but for now, I am looking for options for scope/red dot sights, and the battery life I can expect. Last year it was downright cold in Iowa and I would be leaving the scope on for most of the hunting day.....

While I can't offer much help with a red-dot, I can say that the Stoeger M2000 combo with the cantilevered rifled barrel is a nice setup. Killed 3 deer with it last year and all shots were right on the money. My particular gun favored the winchester partition slugs in 2 3/4", and the new Hornady's, also in 2 3/4". Both slugs patterned well for me.

Good luck!

Joel, what kind of optics did you put on top of that slug barrel? I won 2 hundy in pull tabs ( out of 20 dollars in tickets) so I am back in the market now for this shotgun. Sure would be nice if the cheaper slugs shot as accurate as the $2.50 a shot slugs.....+

Was actually thinking about hitting up Nick at Optics4hunting on a nice Nikon shotgun scope, but I cheaped out and put on a Bushnell Sportsman on that I already had laying around. I bought that scope originally for turkey hunting, but then stepped up to a 3.5" load. I didn't want to chance all that recoil on a cheaper scope and screw up my season.

Mounted on the cantilever barrel however, recoil hasn't knocked it out of aim, and the pro-diamond reticle is the ticket for shotguns I'm convinced. Target acquisition is lightning fast, which was the selling point for me on turkeys when I bought it several years ago. Whatever you're aiming at, the crosshairs seem to align themselves.
