Deception Bay/Lac Seul questions

Recommended Posts

I'll be in the sioux lookout area next week, and I was thinking about putting in at Deception one day to try out Lac Seul. We used to fish and camp near Bear Narrows when I was a kid, but I haven't been up there since. I'm wondering how far from the landing you need to go to get good fishing, and also, is it feasible to run up to the Taylors Island-Bear Narrows area for a day of fishing. I just have an old 16ft lund with a 50 hp on it. Also, what are the water levels like? Should I be fearing for my lower unit at every turn? Any help would be great. Thanks!

You should contact Lac Seul Outposts. They boat in from Deception and go to Chamberlain Narrows. I think that goes near Bear Narrows...but not sure. If you have a map, you can see the area from start to finish. I was in Tuk Bay last week and guys boated there from Deception. Took around 2 hrs, 110 hp at 75%. Not sure about the rocks. Water level was normal...but you can't account for the floating logs. Personally, I don't think you would have to go too far from Deception to catch fish. But if you want to explore, you could get there.

2 years ago i saw a guy catch a 28" walleye off the dock at deception landing while we were waiting for the boats from lac seul outposts to pick us up , so i dont think you have to go too far.

Just finished our 6th trip to Chamberlin Narrows (Ojibway Outfitters). We do indeed put in at Deception Bay and run out with them, right through Bear Narrows. About an hour and 20 minutes from dock to dock in a 17' 'Lumacraft with 60HP Yamy. Since Bear Narrows is about 20 minutes short of camp it might be done in about an hour. Might, but probably not. We follow the camp launch, so have them to knock floating logs out of the way and show us the path through Manitou Rapids and "The Rags" stump field at full speed. Familar as I am with the route I would not run full out by myself.

I also don't think you need to run that far to catch lots of fish. We always see spots much closer to Deception, which we would like to explore, but never get that far south of camp.

Too much lake, too many fish. What an awful problem.

Hi Lakeside, It was good to see you up at Lac Seul outposts again this year. It sounds like your group had a great time. We had a great time as well. We'll have 12-16 people next year from 6/25 to 6/30. After I took that photo of your group holding fish in front of the large map, I thought that was a great idea. I decided were going to do that same photo next year. I hope the photo turned out ok.
