computerboy
Anyone know when the new LakeMaster LOTW chip is going to come out with Canadian data? Their HSOforum has said "Canadian data comming soon" for quite a while now.I need a map chip for the Canadian side of LOTW for this weekend. Should I just buy the Navionics Premium North chip and scrap my plans to buy the Lakemaster LOTW chip? Thanks in advance!
jerkin'm
Yes, it will be years before they get the Canadian side done...
computerboy
Thanks for the quick reply. Do you know if the LOTW map that is on the Navionics Premium North (PREM-N2) chip is the same that is on the Navionics Lake of the Woods chip (CA245L)? Scoot
According to Lakemaster, it'll be weeks, not years. They're just in the process of finishing up 1 foot contours for much of the Canadian side of LOW. In a few weeks the areas from Morson to the NW Angle will be available from Lakemaster in 1 foot contours. I spoke with a Lakemaster rep last week and she said it'd be available in two to six weeks. That probably means two to six months, but either way, it'll be soon for much of the Canadian side. Apparently they have the data for all of the lake but haven't been able to use this data yet and chose to select a portion of the lake to start with. Their plan is to cover the entire lake in the relatively near future. So, you'll want to get the Navionics chip for this weekend because Lakemaster will be a month or two before they've got a product ready. I've already got the Navionics chip and once Lakemaster has the entire Canadian side finished I'll be getting that one too. It'll be really sweet!!! Wild Thing
I have the Navionics chip (premium Gold or something?) and it has the Canadian side of LOTW and Rainy. Their problem with the Canadian government was solved a couple years ago. The issue is they haven't done a detailed lake survey yet so the Canadian side is not as small scale. Still, it's all I need. It has reefs I didn't even know where there! It's excellent. Word is they will resurvey the lake soon and update the chip. It's the Minnesota chip that has it. Call Marine General in Duluth for more information.
jerkin'm
I assumed he meant the whole Canadian side..which will be years (per lakemaster rep). There is a ton of water to survey. I quit believing what they were saying after getting the runaround for months on the updated 06 Minnesota chip. They kept saying a couple weeks in January when I started looking, changed it to a month, is it out yet? Doubt it....Great maps but nobody seems to know the truth about any release dates.. Wild Thing
I gues I'm not sure what Lakemaster is. But my Navionics chip does have the entire Canadian side of Lake of the Woods. I'm no techy (I can't run most of the stuff on my Lowrance) but all of Lake of the Woods is definitely on my chip. It even has all the buoys and chanel markers on the Canadian side. I must be talking about something different. Sorry.
Scoot
WT, I think you're talking about the right thing here. The chip you have is likely the same one I have. It's pretty darn good and covers all of LOW. It was created by overlaying the paper map of LOW with gps coordinates (basically). The Lakemaster product will esentially be a similar product, but it'll have a lot more detail. One foot contours is really nice! Anyway, you're on the right track and we appreciate your input and info!!!
