AQUAJOE
I picked one of these up the other day at Cabelas for some Cat Fishing. Has anyone tried this rod and what are some opinions about it?
Mr Special
Very good rod. Nice slow action tip for circle hooks and plenty of backbone to land big fish. Plus it's pretty cool looking in the dark.
Random guy
I love it! It loads up nice and has a tip that will show all the movement going on. I can tell if my bullhead is happy or sad by watching that tip. Only trouble with it is the bottom light is so bright it blinds you and the top never charges up. Ralph Wiggum
I think the actual LED lights are pretty worthless, but it's a good rod anyways and if you're fishing in a dark area (ie not downtown Minneapolis) they actually glow pretty well and stay glowing for a long time. Guest
Glowsticks are good rods. The 8' & 9' rods are best suited for flatheads, the 7' is a little light for flats, but will still work. Any of them are a good choice for channel cats. They are all excellent circle hook rods, but have enough power for setting the standard hooks also.As others have said.. the lights are not perfect on them. If your in a somewhat lighted area, the lights are useless, but they will still *dance* when you have a bite. If you are in a more remote area, turn the lights on for a couple minutes and then turn them off. The rod will have a very nice, mellow glow to it that you can see for quite a distance... hen the light are on they only blind you.

rushing
****Slowly waves hand across the river and says to the flatheads, "You will bite my bully."*** - thee ole flathead jedi mind trick Those rods just crack me up. Whats next a glowing rod with internal catfish jingle bells so you can see AND hear when you got a fish?
Guest
rushing..I find less humor in a lighted fishing rod than I do a light strapped to my head to see my fishing rod that doesnt have a light on it..miss less bites too!The rods make a handy flashlight when your gathering your gear also. The LED light at the ferrule when the rod is broke down will light up a pretty decent path..
rushing
Seeing my rod is as easy as clipping on a little LED bobber light on the rod tip. Can see the rod tip action just fine then, but I do admit its kinda hard to land a fish by that little light so I do need a headlamp too, especially with how muddy the river banks can get around here. Ihateriversnags
Quote: and if you're fishing in a dark area (ie not downtown Minneapolis) I totally had a vision of being stuck in gridlock traffic on the bridge and seeing one of you MPLS guys throw out a line LOL. Now THAT would be an america's funniest home video moment.

Now THAT would be an america's funniest home video moment. LOL. Funny. Truthfully, though, some of the areas that we fish have a lot of ambient light, and sometimes even big streetlights, and that will drown out the "glow" of the Glowstick. Ihateriversnags
I can imagine... Even up here in the sticks...oops to have sticks we would have to have some trees!! I mean up on the plains near Grand Forks there are places we fish that are the same. Right near the city and lots of lights. Not comparable to MPLS but I get the idea and can see how that would affect the glowsticks.
Random guy
Just picked up another one at Moores bait. Best buy on the nine footer I could come across. Rushing, now I have two so you can have a sword when we meet next time.
mplspug
You guys don't need glow sticks for sword fights. Just a lot of beer and a small bladder.
fiskyknut
LOL, that makes me think of those plastic swords they spear olives with and put in your martini!

hanson
I don't think anyone will regret buying a Glowstick rod from Berkley. My favorite rods right now are Reflex rods from Berkley which were replaced with the Glowstick and are no longer available. If you were to place a Reflex next to a Glowstick, you would swear they are the same rod with a different colored blank. I've seen Fisher Dave land flatheads up to 35lbs in the concrete jungle with a Glowstick so I would not be worried about the rod and its capability. Ralph Wiggum
Chris, the foregrip's a little different. It's a rounded taper on the Glowstick but a straight taper on the Reflex Also, the guides are different, and I think the Reflex is not quite as flexible. They are pretty similar, though.
