1997 Gamefisher?

Fishin4Life

Question

I found this motor online for $1300. It is a 1997 Gamefisher, aparantly a sears brand, 15hp standard shaft motor. They claim it is new in the box, never been run. My questions is are these decent motors? Or am I going to have a million and one problems if I looked at buying an off brand like this? Does anyone have any experience with these, or know what a good price is for this motor?

Here is a pic...sorry it is kinda small, best I got

That motor looks a heck of a lot like a mercury with a different decal on it... I don't think Sears makes outboard motors anymore either...

After some looking on the internet the motor is actually a force motor with gamefisher stickers on it. Force was made by Mercury and was Mercury's cheaper line of outboards. Getting parts shouldn't be too difficult as just about all of them are mercury parts. Mercury no longer offers the Force line for retail sale.

There was a boat for sale here with a better motor and at same price. Why risking to get a "lemon"

Gamefisher were from Sears in the '70s and '80s, they don't maker them anymore.

Check the For Sale Boat ads, there have been some good deals lately.

Marine_Man email me regarding Force motors.... grin.gif

Val,

E-mail sent.. I'm pretty sure the Gamefisher brand resurfaced for sure in 1997 as I've seen several posts on other boards about them... the picture of the motor would fit with a 1997 merc / force motor...

I do agree that for the price you could probably find something somewhat comparable that was a proven brand and not worry about the potential trouble you could have with getting parts when you need them...
