Boat Ramps, stuff that makes you ask why?

Recommended Posts

Pulled down to the river to do some bottom feeder fishing the other day, only to find a truck backed into the landing no boat on the trailer, no one in site? look up and down the river no one around confused.gif Wait for about 5 mins, after carful inspection of the landing, the 2005 Dodge pickup and the trailer that was worth more than my boat, motor, trailer, and vehical, I decided that with a little luck I could get down the side of the ramp not blocked off.

Well it takes me a few tries to get the boat down in an area with only a foot to spare, but I get the trailer in the water, tie the boat off to shore and then go park.

In the mean time the idiots for lack of a better word return and give me a lecture about hogging the boat ramp? confused.gifconfused.gif

I just shook my head muttering something about a mirror, they didn't understand.

Another good one that I didn't witness but a buddy told me about was at the same landing, 2 guys come back in from fishing and proceed to back in way to far, after 4 or 5 tries they get the boat loaded straight and proceed to drive away with 2 walleyes on a stringer hanging from the back. Go to strap the boat down and never notice the fish, then drive all the way home like that. Wish I would have seen that conversation.

O Btw, thats only the last weeks antics.

Last weekend we were trying to get the boat off the lake we live on, because we dont have a ramp, and thunderstorms were in the forcast for this week, so I take the trailer over to the landing and as I pull up, I see two little kids swimming in the lake, 3 adults standing by the dock, and 3 dogs running around catching tennis balls thrown into the water, I thought "oh great" so I continue to back the trailer in the water, when the little white poodle darts behind the trailer barking its fluffy brains out, I almost hit it, I get the trailer in, and the kids procede in swimming by the dock, while the dogs are hovering around us, slapping there tails around and getting me all wet. The adults just kept yelling at the dogs to get over there, but like those stubborn little labradors they were too hyper to listen. The kids and dogs were making unnessecary waves that drove me up the wall, and I wanted to ask what the heck they were even doing there, they werent even towing a boat or anything. That little poodle was gonna be a flapjack if he would've waltzed out when I actually had the boat on the trailer and visability was limited. Uggh!

I had that problem last week in the Effie Area as well. At two different ramps people were using the landing area as a swimming pool for the kids, and a playpen for the dogs, while the adults sit back and giggle. Nearly ran over two pooches and had to go out of my way to avoid swimming kids.

I went to a little lake last week with an unimproved access, very little space for anything, including parking. When I pulled up there were two kids about 10 years old fishing from shore. They had their bikes parked right in the middle of the access. Before I even got out of the truck to remove the boat straps these two kids were grabbing their bikes and moving them off into the weeds so I could launch.

Makes you think....two little kids who probably have nothing on their mind but catching a few fish from shore are considerate enough and observant enough to "get it". But yet many adults don't understand common sense things such as this if their life depended on it.
