Daughters 1st car

Question

Just bought a 99 Grand Am for my daughter a month ago. A friend was following behind me and told me the rear passenger wheel was wobbling, Question is what do I have going on? just a wheel balance (hopefully) or more, I want it to be safe for the young one. Thanks.

Jack up the car, grab the tire and try and move it side to side, if theres play you have a bad wheel bearing. If theres no play spin the tire, use your finger as an indicator, holding it next to the rim. If the rim is bent you'll feel it. Now test the tire to see if its bulged just like you tested the rim.

Surface tension is right, then put your daughter in the drivers seat and make her drive the car until she feels the wheel wobbling, probably through the seat. Then turn the radio off and let her hear the noise that it makes. Teach her to listen to her car before something like this happens again and something tragic happens. New noise doesn't mean everything is fine

I wish my father in law had done this to my wife and her sisters.

You rarely see it but another possibility (if its an aluminum wheel) is that the area on the back side of the wheel, where it touches the rotor, becomes so corroded it no longer mounts true resulting in a wobble. Must likely its a bent wheel. hopefully its a steel wheel. They are relatively inexpensive.
