Minnetonka

Recommended Posts

Howdy,

Our Bass league is fishing Tonka in a week and I've only fished it once (for Muskies). We're going out of Maxwell Bay. Are the small bays (Stubbs, Maxwell, Crystal, North Arm) good spots to find them or do you need to go out on the big lake? Just thought I'd post this to get some general thoughts and ideas of what to expect out there?

What presentations work?

Thanks for replies!

Hi Ole, where are all the Tonka experts to help you out? I don't fish there often but I did a club tournament there 2 years ago and did pretty well.

Some advise you probably already thought about:

treat it like any other lake you're fishin for the first time.

don't waste time running from one end of the lake to another, basically the west half is stained water and the east half is much clearer, since your going out of Maxwell I wouldn't try to cover any more water than Maxwell and the 3 bays attached to Maxwell.

look for the larger spawning flats and buzz one first thing then and fish the edge of the first drop off outside the flat for post spawn fish.

use a good lake map and start marking inside turns on the breakline, make a milk run of about 6 or 8 of these fishin the inside edge of the weeds and the nearest docks. the dock bite was pretty good last week on the lakes I was on

In between flats and inside turns look for pronounced weedlines and particularly well defined inside edges. look for a topwater bite to improve, try twitchin a floating rap on inside weedlines and frog toss any pads you cruise by.

Ole, e-mail me for more specific info and share with me what's been workin for you so far this year.
