I wish it was hunting season. At least I'm able to be shooting the gun.

knoppers
its getting closer. I have been tooling up for the season, I will be better prepared this year.whats the best way to cook the birds?
carpshooterdeluxe
so how does one better prepare to get humiliated by the bird that defies all physics and actually flies around those little #8s? lol i cant wait to heat up the citori barrels between goose hunts! and as for a way to cook them we usually just salt and pepper them on the grill, maybe toss a little bbq sauce over em and hover around the grill with forks. those tasty morsels usually arent around long enough to see a plate! Sartell Angler
put some chopped garlic on 'em or a jalapeno slice, wrap it in bacon, and slap it on the grill! goes great with a Mich. or 10!
frabillfisher
A little more then a month away, sounds like a long time but it will come soon enough...the next question is how to beat the bugs, that always sucks when its still hot out...to cook them im all for the wrapped in bacon on the grill with some phil robertson's cajun style seasoing...nothin better o ya and a little butter

rgoi812
old gravel pits with shallow standing water puddles seems to draw them in.may have to get creative with your own puddles somehow by the looks of it so far this year.whats the easiest way to make a large bird bath?? brown tarps and a water truck maybe? USPENAMC
that is for sure cant wait. I have to say its one of the hunting outings in which you can really let loose on that trigger finger those creatures can surely move and change directions what areas is everyone hunting
uphill
I am wondering I have never gone dove hunting but I would like to try it what size shot do you guys use. I shoot a reminngton 1170 that can shoot 3-1/2 inch shell but I am guessin gthat you don't need to use that big of a shell. But what shot does a guy use? ARNE
I use the cheapest 7 1/2 or 8 shot I can find cause you go thru it fast and if you hit then they usually go down. Its getting close
braves57
so is there a "best time" to scout and hunt them? or doesn't it matter? Are you just looking for a tree line near water? Rookie's looking for a little help... Thanks!
Sartell Angler
they are out in full force right now! all of our traditional spots are holding a decent # of birds--can't wait! Find a location with the following (the more of these combined in one area, the better!)~Small grain~Water (where they can land on dirt and still have access to the water)~Dead trees for roosting (or power lines)~Grit (sandpiles, sandpits, etc)Good luck all! Today is my last day of work until classes resume on Wed, Sept.6th...will be in BWCA until dove opener, then hunting doves and geese until the 6th...YEAH! getdowndog
I have been scouting the WMA areas designated as dove fields.Zumbrota and Whitewater WMA have small grains planted and strip mowed. I have been to each field twice, early mornings and within an hour of sunset. The DNR did a good job planting and mowing on a few of these fields. My biggest concern is that I have not seen 1 single dove inany of these fields.I bought a nice Russian 20ga over and under last year and I have yet to take a dove with it.This Baikal 20ga dropped a couple of woodies last season so I was hoping to shoot about 30 doves this year.So if anyone could point me in the right direction for a field full of Doves send me a pm.Thanx
USPENAMC
south west is your best bet im going searching today probably wont get alot of shooting in unless i actually hit it on the NAIl right on the first place i check out if i find out anything ill post it Unlike deer or other types of hunting .... Dove hunting is better when there are more people around helps DRIVE the doves around... and see how many people miss the poor thing,,,,im going to look for some wma's down by 212 stewart mn area, and down by 19 area gas is going to get expensive. i wont be able to hunt until monday again so what i find today will hopefully be usefull by monday. I think we should all share our finds specially for DOVE since once you find a honey hole there is more than enough for everybody i will share my findings with everyone
