Question

Related to another post, but I didn't want to hijack it.

Hey all, a pretty basic and possibly very covered question for you fellas. I had the same graph for about 10 years in my boat. I got very familiar with it and could make it do what I wanted. Now, however, I've finally updated to a Lowrance 332C and I'm looking for a little help with tweaking it. What bells and whistles-type settings can I mess with on it to get the most out of it for marking walleyes in the 15 to 35 foot ranges? I assume I'll need it in manual rather than auto to get the best performance? My old graph definitely needed to be in manual to get it to pick up fish effectively. Is that the case with the 332C still? What else should I be doing with it to mark any and all fish?

Thanks,

Lots of things to tweak, I start with surface clarity and noise rejection.

But first I make sure the transducer is positioned correctly, and the chart speed is maxed out.

After that you can tweak the colorline and the sensitivity, even the ping rate if needed. Or set the zoom ranges. For me personally, I have a couple color graphs and I set the colorline the same on them and rarely if ever change it, and I almost never use the zoom features.

Download the emulator off the Lowrance sight if you haven't done so already, it essentially lets you run your graph on your PC.

I am sure there are as many "ways" as there are fisherman. Listen to all the good ideas, try them, and figure out what works best for you. I like to set the sensitivity quite high. It makes for lots of clutter but with the color you can really pick out more objects. I change my colorline more than anything. I like to set it to a bottom and then look for changes in color hence a change in bottom hardness. When you first start it will just tell you if the bottom is softer or harder than that to which you set the colorline too. In time you will get more comfortable and will be able to identify different bottom compositions. I usually set my sensitivity at 90-95 and my colorline at 75. Good luck and have fun that is what fishing is all about.

Two things I'd do is to max out your ping speed (which might do the same thing as maxing out your chart speed on some locators.)

The other thing I'd do is increase your sensitivity to the point that you get two bottom echos... one at the actual bottom and one at the twice the depth of the bottom.

Enjoy the new locator!
