Bluegills spawning?

Recommended Posts

Anyone found them on beds yet? Probably a bit early but with this hot weather if not yet shouldn't be too much longer, eh? I like to get out at least once a year with the fly rod and fry a couple up, nothing better eating if ya ask me wink.gif

Spent the day on Sat panfishing and found crappies on the beds and some dandy pumpkinseeds and bluegills just moving up to the grounds. Biggest pumpkinseed we got was 9 1/2" and biggest gill was 9 1/4" I'll try to get some pics up. No matter how old you are its still fun to watch that cork disappear as soon has it hits the water. cool.gif

The gills are shallow on beds on Wissota. Its not know for them but if you're in the area the gill fishing has really improved there the past several years.

Brought the 3 kids back to the lake yesterday for some panfish action. The crappies were absent from there shallow bay from where they were a week ago. The bluegill beds were all but empty. Did manage to get them into some action but the spawn on this lake is pretty much over. Very warm water.

4labonte - no prob, whats the email address? Or, its quite simple, hit the shallow areas with weeds and/or wood cover. Lots of areas in the Little Lake have good weed growth - the bay by the old Riders/Wissota Marina. Those bays up Paint creek from there. Stillson creek area. On the big lake, the Yellow river/state park area plus Pine Harbor. Bobbers and leeches/worms/waxies work as does the old fly rod and foam spider. In a nutshell - find weeds=bluegills.
