WC-14 owners

Question

I know there's a few of you here, I have a question. When running this boat alone I have to get as far forward as possible to get it up on plane, I'm talking dang near kneeling on floor and stretching back to control motor. Once on plane, I can sit back w/o problem. With another person in the boat it does just fine. The motor is adjusted as far as it goes to get the bow down. I do have the battery & gas behind the rear seat, and I am going to try the battery in the bow and more experimenting with weight distribution. FYI I have a 15 horse and it runs great. The prop is standard to the best of my knowledge.

Does this sound normal??

yeah, I have exactly the same problem with my alumacraft. Putting the battery up there evens it up enough to get going better but its a reall pain in the butt. There just isnt enough weight in the bow on these small boats... I am guessing you bought the WC-14 we were talking about a while back? How do you like it otherwise??

Ya I bought it. This is the only problem I have. I had to put a new piece of plywood above the livewell, and a new floor behind the back seat, and give it a real good cleaning. I have only had it out 3 times so I have to fish more to "fine tune" it. Bottom line, for what I have in it I am more than satisfied

I put a battery in front up by the bow with my trolling motor. I also moved my gas tank in front of the back bench and built a "back deck". I put a "front deck" on too.

I have a 25hp on mine and zip along about 30 to 35mph. It is a riot on the river.

Now, the only problem I have is if I'm alone, I can't go WOT, or I start porposing more than what I dolphin could..........I can only go about 2/3rd throttle, 3/4 at best. I'm on plane as soon as I give her gas........By the way, I'm pushing 300lbs, so my boat weight distribution is about right........

I've got a 16' Lund Laker with a 25 on it, and had the same problem. I know it's a little underpowered, but most lakes I fish are no-wake, so usually it isn't a problem here in Iowa. With just me, the battery and gas tank in the back, I couldn't get up on plane. Put a person in front, no problem. This year, before we went to Minnesota, I moved the battery to the front, and what a difference! I am going to put a longer hose on my gas tank also, and when I'm alone I can move it forward, or when I'm not, stick it back under the seat.

i have the same issue with my wc12. When fishing alone I put my suitcase, I mean tacklebox and gas tank up as far as I can in the boat. I already had the long gas line but my cables to the battery werent long enough to put the battery up there. My boss has a 14' with a 30hp on it. He has to put sandbags up front plus he has a bow mount troller and battery up there.
I think we all need bigger boats:+) or extension handles on the tiller so we can sit farther up in the boat.
GOOD LUCK

riverrat- Take a look at lunds home page and check the adventure series, then wc 14 deluxe. Basically, there is a bench in front, a bench in the rear and 2 baoxes on the sides in between. 1 is livewell, 1 is storage. Really a nice setup for 2 people.
