traveler
OK, it's not for a kid...but my 60 yr old brother has been diagnosed wth stage 4 cancer and is terminal:( I offered to take him most anywhere and he just wants to go to a northern MN resort and do pike, panfish, etc...small boat, loons, that sort of thing. I haven't done that sort of thing in a long time, always looking for greener pastures as it is. I/he just want a small, quiet cabin/resort somewhere in northern Mn. maybe Grand Rapids area, Bemedji, without lots of extras. Emphisis on quiet. Any thoughts? DTro
Check out elbow lake lodge near Vermilion. Only resort on the lake and right on the edge of the BWCA.
mechanictim
Check out Timber wolf point resort on Echo lake near Buyck. They have about five cabins on the lake, real quiet and very remote. Cabins are comfortable and scatterd through the woods along the lake shore. Larry the owner is a very good host who will help you find your way around or just pretty much leave you alone. traveler
Thanks for all ideas guys. He's down in Brainerd and can't handle much travel/exertion so I'm hoping to find something more north central, just your average small, ma and pa quiet place with decent fishing. Unfortunatly, the kind of place that doesn't usually have a HSOforum.
slick814
Try Mattila's resort on Birch Lake near Babbitt... small cabins, smaller lake, great fishing for multiple species...it's one of only 3(?) resorts on the lake, which has next to no pressure outside of local anglers. VERY quiet, loons, bids, animals, the whole nine yards, and isn't very hard to get to and from town if you need to get there.
Pherris
I have spent time at Pine Beach Resort on Garfield Lake in Laporte MN. It is near leech lake and that is more popular so this lake and resort get very little pressure. Great Walleye, Pike and panfish. You family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
