LMS 480 freezes up - HELP!!!

slick814

Question

Hey all -

the LMS 480 that I've got on my boat freezes up now and then. No consistent patter of when, but it'll be reading fine, I'll watch my line for a bit, take a look back at the screen and it'll be stuck where it had been a few minutes before.... anyone else have this problem, or maybe a fix for it?

I'm not familiar with this particular unit, but does it have the capability of taking map chips? If so, try pulling them out and running without it for a while to see if that's the problem. At least then you may have a direction to take when you call Lowrance rather than the hit and miss approach.

I have an X-15 and it's been great up until now when I've noticed that it will sometimes freeze for a moment and then contined on. The other day I powered it down and it showed a completely black screen and wouldn't power up or down. Had to remove the 12V power plug on the back and then it was good again.

This is the first year I've run a commericially produced mapping chip (had a blank with my waypoints and such loaded since day one) and wonder if the processor is bogging down for a second when it accesses the chip memory. Just a theory.....

It did it with no chip, and now with 2 different Lake Master chips, so I don't think that that's the problem...

Unfortunately..

MJCatfish... thanks.. I'll give the Lowrance HSOforum a try... hopefully it'll have the fix!
