Definitely not normal. Since it only happens on high power I initially am thinking that maybe you have a circuit breaker kicking on/off??? If the problem is in the motor, then it would be a defective main control board.

Check the breaker, then take the motor in to a Minn Kota warranty center.

I concur. I had experienced the same problem with my 40pd when I first got it. I only had a 40A circuit breaker but the motor was rated for 42A so I had to upsize to a 50A circuit. Be careful here. If the wire from the battery to the motor are not sized for the load current, you could overload them by upsizing your circuit breaker and have a fire potential.

If you didn't have this problem in the past but now it has become an issue, I would suspect that the circuit breaker is fine but something in the motor is causing excessive load. Could be anything that causes the motor to turn hard. Have you removed the prop and checked that nothing is wrapped up on the motor shaft? How old is the system? Could be the motor is wearing out or a motor shaft bearing/bushing is going bad.

I have a 55 to, I've only used a couple of times. I've been having the same problem (circuit breaker tripping) when I run the motor wide open for several minutes. i talked the the guy that sold me me the motor and he said that it was normal. I'm not sure I believe that. Last night when I was charging the battery I found a connection on the breaker that was loose ( I could turn the nut with my fingers) I tightened it, it remains to be seen it this will solve the problem or not.

I am simply amazed by this web site. No matter what your problem or question is you can get some advice here.
