mattkimk
As a Cub fan living here in Minnesota I have to ask a question. Has Jones always been so lacking in fundamentals? Three times now he has been doubled off of second base on a fly to the outfield. Three times may not sound like much, but the season is only quarter of the way through. He seems to have no idea what a cutoff man is, and when an opposing pitcher is wild (i.e. walked the first two batters on eight balls) he is just swinging away at the first pitch. I really thought that him coming to play for Cubs was going to be a good thing. I thought he would bring some of that twin small ball, team play to the Cubs but he has really stunk it up. It would be one thing to just be slumping but there is no excuse for his poor fundmental baseball. Also, the only thing better than a Cub win is a Whitesox loss!Matt
bigbucks
He's a free swinger, always has been, he'd gotten a little more patient the last few years, but the new league & not knowing the pitchers probably hasn't helped that. He's a very good outfielder & normally has been a good baserunner, probably pressing & trying to do too much, would be my guess.
Eric Wettschreck
Believe it or not, Jones is quite a good outfielder. He was brought up in the Twins orginization. Twins way of play is if you're an outfielder with an arm (Hunter, Jones) and you can make a play then gun him down. He's got a ton of speed and can cover a lot of real estate. He's a free swinger. Strikes out a lot. Going from AL to NL is a huge change. He's prolly trying too hard. Give the dude a little time and I think you'll like what you got. buzzsaw
Too inconsistant at the plate for me, his glove was fine, but he drove me nuts watching him swing like Torri! Situation... the last 36 batters have walked, jones up to bat... 1st pitch three feet high and Jones swings and misses!! Thats him, undisciplined. He suffers from the same thing Torri Hunter suffers from.. they want to be able to hit any pitch at anytime... aka... Kirby and their not Kirby! Windy City Walleye Hunter
Boiler,He's a good fielder, unless he has a girl tossing to him! Did you hear what happened at Wrigley? I guess a girl in the stands threw a ball out on the field and Jacque nearly got beaned on the melon, then he comes on after the game complaining about it. What a puss, I mean, it was a GIRL tossing the ball FROM THE STANDS. I hope he doesn't have any kids because the father/son game could get brutal for him if he takes a high hard one from a 4 year old. Funny stuff here in the Windy city, of course it comes from the "lighter" side of town (as is light in the loafers), you know, "boys town" where the men are men and the sheep are nervous! Windy City Walleye Hunter
Geno,Give Georgie Steinbrenner a call, he might be stupid enough to keep Kerry Wood in "chew" and brews for a few years. So what you thinking Geno, sweep this weekend? Let the games begin, 3 pm Friday is "high noon". YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD...YES! Windy
