MnKota Vector 3 Problem

Down Deep

Question

I have a new 80lb thurst MinnKota Vector 3. Last Saturday was it's first use. While I was backtrolling the lower unit (prop and motor) spun around and ended up like someone had put the motor on backwards. The handle was 180 degrees in the other direction and locked in that position. Anyone ever had this happen? Got an idea why? It's under warranty, but is it something I can easily fix so I don't have to remove it from the boat and take it in?

Are you familiar with the bracket and how to reverse lower unit direction? Consult your owners manual.

I am just saying that to see if there is a problem here or if someone you changed it without realizing how you did it.

If you are talking about switching the motor from backtroll to standard...Yes. The motor handle is actually pointing out of the back of the stern. It was pointing forward and then just spun around while running unattended for a couple of minutes during a P-call.

I had a vector 3 on my last boat... as stated it probably spun around so as to be in the backtrolling position. There is a lock on the shaft that can be loosened and spin the head back. It may not have been locked down so it ended up spinning on you. This is in the owners manual. It is an option on that motor to have it std. vs. backtrolling and they simplified the process in which to change it.

Good Luck!

That just doesn't sound right. When I pulled the switch on my 3x I don't ever remember the handle sticking 180 degrees the other way. What I remember is that the lower unit just spun around. I may be wrong, but this doesn't sound that simple. I'd have it checked. Should still be under warranty.

Good luck!
