Just wondering if you people might have recommendations as far as who to talk with regarding a group of 5 to 10 people taking a houseboat fishing trip up north somewhere.

Thank you,

Walleyedan

p.s. Good luck to everyone that is going out this weekend.

Brother -

It'd be hard to beat Rainy Lake Houseboats for your trip. Lots and lots of fish, the houseboats are real nice, and you can get away from it all. Billy Daugherty is a heckuva a nice guy.

We ran a houseboat with Rainy Lake Houseboats last year and had a great time. There are many beautiful places to set up camp for the night on Rainy. Great Walleye action all year long. The staff is great and will tell you fishing hot spots to hit all along the journey. Go as far as you can the first day with the boat so that you are not travelling each day at 5mph with the big rig. More time to search around with the fishing boats. The kids had a blast with the water slide....the 12 and 35 year old kids!!!! It was fun to run the 18' with the 150hp down to Kettle Falls as well.

I second Gissert's recommendation. I have done the Floating Lodges trip three times and the boats are great and so is the service and you are on LOW. Houseboating can't get much better than that.

If you want to stay on the American side, I would go with Voyagaire Houseboats on Crane Lake. You have access to Crane, Sandpoint, Namakan and Kabetogama Lakes from there and Jim & Gretchen Jansen are great hosts.

For me, LOW and Voyageurs Nat'l Park are a toss up in terms of beauty and solitude.

Dan,

Three years ago, we went with Ebels out of Ash River. It is centrally located in Voyageurs National Park. We stayed on the Namaken,Sand Point and Crane Lake side.

I thought it was reasonably priced for 2 families. Good boats and good maps. We always looked for houseboat sites with sandy beaches for the kids.

We towed the fishing boat, and put the canoe and rubber raft on top of the house boat. This houseboat trip was the best vacation I have ever had.

A friend of mine has taken two trips with Voyagaire out of Crane Lake. They had a great time too. A houseboat vacation is definitely a lot of fun. KT
