115 or 140?

anchor man

Question

I'm trying to decide on a 115 Suzuki 4stroke or 140 Suzuki 4 stroke to put on a 1700 Lund Fisherman.

Does anyone know the difference in top end speed/performance for a 115 and a 140 on this boat (assuming factory prop)?

Go with the 140 4-stroke, or try to max the boat out. A boat performs lots better with more power than it does with less.
So IMO go with the 140, you will be glad you did.

We have a 185 Tourney Pro Alumacraft with a 140 Johnson 4-stroke. Its a awesome motor, but for that size of a boat its a little under powered. I sometimes wish it would of been maxed out at a 200 4-stroke when we got it. The hole shots and the handling in bigger waves would be a little better. Plus its fun to go fast across the lake. tongue.gif

anchor man,

Go with the 140.

I have a 115 Suzie on the back of my Lund Explorer 1800, and it is much lighter than the Fisherman. You will certainly want the 140 on that heavy boat.., and it will troll down nicely for you!!!!!!!

You won't be sorry with the Suzie. I absolutely LOVE mine!!!!!!

Have an 1800 fisherman with 140 johnson 4-stroke. Runs 48 mph (GPS) with 2 people, half tank of fuel, SS prop, smooth water. Typically it will top out at 45 with any other circumstances. Depends on load and conditions. Love the motor. Good torque and very quite. I would get the 140 even for your 1700. I don't think the price difference is that much. Good Luck

I have the exact same setup. 1700 Fisherman with a 140 suzuki. Love it! I would not go with less. I get 44 MPH with SS prop. My boat is loaded and I also have a 9.9 kicker to factor in the weight. Gas Mileage is unreal!

I have a 1700 fisherman (2000) with a 115 Yamaha (2000). With me and a buddy I GPS on smooth water at 42mph. Gas consumption is great, and it goes as fast as I need it to. I think the 1700 fisherman is rated up to 150hp. My motor weighs 358. The Suzuki weighs 370.

I agree, always max the boat on hp. No use in spending that much money and not optimizing performance.
I have a 140 Zuki on a 1750 Sportfish. Sweet motor. 43mph @ WOT.

What SS prop are you running? I have a 14x21 Suziki Aluminum, would like to switch to a SS.

Another vote for the Suzuki 140. Mine's on a 1800 Fisherman. I believe the max HP on the 1700 is 150, so a 140 would be ideal. I'd also go with a stainless prop for a little more bite. A 115 would be in the grey area for enough HP for the boat but I belive it would be just fine.
