Re filling lower unit

Huskie

Question

I drained my lower unit in the fall, and I just refilled the lower unit with grease via a pump. I put the top screw in first and in the process of removing the pump and inserting the lower screw a small amout of grease, say two tablespoons leaked out. Is that going to be a problem? And I also was told not to leave the lower unit empty over the winter, live and learn.

Grease? I hope you mean lower unit oil.. You filled it correctly, just need to be a little quicker with the bottom screw smirk.gif Purpose of changing lower unit oil in the fall is to make sure that any water that got into the lower unit will be removed so that it does not freeze over winter and if there is water then it means you need to service the lower unit. Something that should be done every fall.
