speedometer not working ( plugged )

Dusty

Question

I have a 115 yamaha 4s with a plugged speedometer line. Anyone have the fix for this? I notice about half way up on the front of the drive shaft there is a plastic tube with a splice area held together with two cable ties. I am wondering if that is the speedometer line and if that may be some type of filter? Thanks in advance.

Yep, that's your speedometer line, you can disconnect tubes and blow air into them both ways, but be sure to disconnect also at the speedometer, or you'll blow stuff into it.

If that small hole in the front of the lower unit is plugged, try drilling carefully with a small bit. Of course don't push too far in and go through the line. Go just enough to auger out the crud stuck in there.

You may even be able to just hand turn a small bit in there to get the muck out of it. That is of course if you can't easily get to the line to try to blow air through it which would be the first thing to try. I've used the drill though and it works well.
