I am thinking of buying a used boat from my local dealer. The boat is nice and it is cheap. They will not warranty the motor because it didn't test to their standards. They claim it has a 5% loss in compression. It's a 1987 50 hp Evinrude. Is this a red flag or is this normal on an older motor? I don't water ski and am not one to "fly" across a lake. So if it's normal usage and basic trolling will it be fine?
We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
