1999 Mercury 40 hourse bigfoot help

crestliner17

Question

I have a 99 40 horse mercury that I have taken to 4 mechanics without success. It dies out when I give it gas or let off of the gas. All the mechanics end up doing is cleaning it with foam and cleaning the gas tank. This will help for a few trips but then the problem returns. Any sugestions?

Thanks in advance.

There are numerous possibilities, compression, fuel, electrical, etc. It's almost impossible to resolve unless you post everything the mechanics did to it, so we can pickup with what they left out.

This sounds very familiar to me. I have a 2000 Mercury 40 h.p. Bigfoot on my Crestliner Angler 16 . 3 cylinders, 3 carbs. I bought it in 2002, and experienced similar troubles. Eventually, a successful repair. But, like Valv said, lets find out exactly what the symptoms are, what has been done so far, and the results of those repairs. Let's start with that and take it from there. Can you do any of your own work ?
