Not only will the #8 will be black....ALL the DEI cars will be painted black for both the Cup and Busch races!! Saw a few pictures over at Jayski. Hope they can contend for a win this weekend as that would really be something to see. grin.gif

NAPA, you just made my day! Just because I didn't like the big "E" dosen't mean I didn't respect him.

Now if your asking my opinion on this I think the media has spent way to much time on the life of Dale Sr. Drivers (and people for that matter) of all skill levels and achievments come and go, that's the nature of life. It's time to move on.

I know that isn't going to sit very well with most of you but when it comes right down to it, Dale Ernhardt Sr. isn't any different than any of us.

That paint scheme is sweet!!! Even though it isn't a #3 it brings back a lot of memories of when Dale Sr. was around.

Hope to see the #8 in Victory Lane this weekend.

I'm going to have to pick up that diecast to add to the DEI collection of mine.

Just a guess, but this diecast alone might outsell every Kurt and Kyle Busch colletible ever sold! grin.gif

One of the coolest things I have ever seen, Hopefully we can have a DEI sweep. Remember everybody at home during the race hold up three fingers during lap 3. Yes you to Lawdog MNFishGUY

What, no BDR sweep also?? You can rotate the "55" between holding up "3" grin.gif

Dega and Daytona suck, until they get away from pack racing....I'll take 4 more Dovers or Richmonds

subordinate

low-ranking

less important

This tribute is between a son and his father, why is everyone else jumping on the bandwagon? I'm pretty sure nobody here lost anything the day "E" died. Sure, he was a legend but half the field on Sunday didn't race against him so it means nothing to them.

I'll say it again. Yes he was a legend but all legends fade with time. Jr. dosen't grieve or really care about anybody in your family that you might have lost so why can't we, as a collective fan base let Jr. settle this for himself.

huh?

First of all, it's a tribute from DEI for Dale Sr. being inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame. A celebration of his long and successful career. All the DEI cars will be black in the races this weekend.....not just Jr's.

If it means nothing to the ones who never raced against Dale Sr. then that's too bad and a shame. Like most of society today they don't have respect for those who paved the way for them. This salute is about the fans and those who aren't too ignorant and blind to recognize his accomplishments on and off the track. Even someone who isn't a fan of Dale Sr. can't deny it. He was a leader in the sport and those who do not realize what he did for the sport don't have a grasp on reality and the truth. Any driver, or NASCAR fan for that matter, who doesn't see what he has done to the growth of stock car racing needs a wakeup call. The drivers today may not have what they have if he wasn't a major cog in the NASCAR machine for the time period he was around. Petty was on his way out and a new leader stepped up. I haven't seen anyone step up yet since #3 left to take their turn at keeping the sport going in the right direction.

I don't see any correlation between Jr. grieving and the purpose of this tribute. Obviously the Earnhardt family isn't going to care if you, Joe Shmoe, or I die tomorrow, but unless I'm missing something I don't think we have nationwide recognition either. That comparison is apples and oranges. He was a hero in many people's eyes. An icon. Just like Elvis, John Lennon, John F. Kennedy, etc, etc. Every year on the anniversary of their deaths it is published or mentioned somewhere that day in the media. I could care less about John Lennon, but I do recognize what he did in his genre at that particular period of time. This is the five-year anniversary of Dale's death and also his HOF induction weekend, hence the tribute from DEI.

Love him or hate him, he did contribute more than just 7 Cup Championships and deserves to be remembered.

No difference between Gordo and the 8.Both are the same points out of first and neither of the 2 are contenders.Being Gordo has a better record in cup and still tied with the 8,It seems to make him lower than the 8.Just what the current points reflect.

Jr is doing as well as can be expected,Gordo's slide from the top shows just maybe he is not what alot of people think him to be.

A fair amount of people think that Gordo is the stud and yet he is tied with Jr. as he struggles to get his act together.

I personally see no difference between them at the present time for this year.

LIMITOUT

Very well said.

Lmitout, so if I am reading you right then you will be the first in line when Jack Roush dies (also being inducted at the same time as Dale Sr.) and you will be behind the Ford guys doing their tribute, since Jack has contributed more to this sport than just his championships.

Did I read that right?

Just what I said with my reference to Lennon.....don't really care for him/them, but I'm not going to redicule those that do care as I recognize what they brought to their specific sport, music, culture, etc. Some want to honor THEIR hero, idol, icon, what have you, and they should in the fashion that they please. Detractors should step aside and "let it be". Pun intended! grin.gif

This thread was started as news about the paint scheme and what it is supposed to represent, not to open the door for another DEI bashfest although that's what it always turns into........... smirk.gif

Nice post L OUT

I think this is good for Nascar. I think most of the drivers would love to drive a car painted the same, kind of like a whole race tribute, all black cars. Wouldnt that be cool??? Remember when Payne Stewart died, alot of the field wore knickers in rememberance. It seems Earnhardt marketed him self as blue collar. Maybe thats why he is loved so much. He was the workin mans driver, the guy who carries his lunch box to work.
