deadminnowcatcher
The local tire shop tells me that my boat trailer should have trailer tires on it and not a regular car tire? Trailer tires are more money. I am told the trailer tire has a thicker side wall. Is it really necessary to have the trailer tire????
0 Surface Tension
First thing is the load rating on a passenger car tire may not be enough for your trailer.

0 Surface Tension
A car has its weight over 4 tires. So say your tires are rated at 780 lbs. Your boat weighs 1300 lbs and your outboard weighs 500 Lbs. Your now past the load range of your tires. Add the weight of the trailer and gear and your well over. 0 Valv
Don't ever put car tires on trailers. That's why they have more sidewall plyes, to support weight. Also buy radial trailer tires, instead of bias, you will be safer. It's more money, but your rig will cost more if you have an accident due to bad tires,

0 cold one sd
It kind of depends on how much you value your boat. I have a friend that used to put car tires on his boat trailer and He would blow a couple tires every time we went fishing in Canada. When he blew one, he would just go to a tire dealer and buy a take off from a car and run it until it blew. He finally learned after about 5 years of changing blown tires.
