Throw back bait

As a general rule my throwback will be a similar bait to what i was throwing, or a slow moving topwater, unless that was what i was using when i got a lazy follow , If i leave an area then come back for a following fish i wont throw the exact same bait at it but something similar. If it came up on a jackpot i would come back with a hawg wobbler or a creeper or some bait that works the same area of the water column but with a slightly different action. If i get a hot follow on a bucktail i may come back with a bucktail of a different color, or a different blade type .If i had a willow on when i got the follow i would try a Hard thumping colorado or vice versa. Of course if i came back and nightfall was fast approaching i think it would be topwater no matter what the fish originally followed on if the conditions allow it. Just general rule of thumb for me that works, i'm sure alot of these guys have different approaches that work also , its just what you have confidence in. You could throw something totally contrasting to what you had the original follow on.

When it comes right down to it i think a creeper or a hawg wobbler is hard to beat as a throwback because they are slow moving and drive em' nuts!!

I think a a LOT of different lures can be successful throwback lures....We kept raising a big girl last year on LOTW, followed all the typical muskies baits but no catch. When it was caught, It was on a small jointed perch rapala that i put on my dads pole so he wouldn't get snagged and let us "musky guys" catch it instead...go figure....

That being said however....The Bulldawg is an amazing throwback lure that NEVER leaves my side when I am in the boat So i can have it ready for follows or other activity from Muskies
