red treble hook size

I bought some size 4 Eagle Claw red treble hooks. I want to replace one treble hook on some cranks. When I compared the size of the hooks the eagle claws were bigger. The shaft was longer. Should I have purchased the smaller size 6 treble hook? If I keep the larger size 4 will the action of the crankbait be altered? If the action is not altered will my hookups be better because of the larger hook? Thanks for any advice you can provide.

HEY BUCKETMOUTH I DID THE SAME THING CEPT I BOUGHT GAMAGATSU INSTEAD. THE ONES I GOT WERE JUST A LITTLE BIGGER THAN THE STOCK TREBLE HOOKS AND I STILL CATCH FISH. I DONT THINK THAT LITTLE BIT OF DIFFERENCE IS GOING TO AFFECT THE LURE TOO MUCH TO THE POINT WHERE IT WONT CATCH FISH.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to this.. I was on a hotspot fishing trip this weekend..

Anyway, the biggest problem you run into when you put larger hooks on a crankbait is, at times the front hook and the rear hook can attach to each other and make it very difficult to hook a fish. If you can get it so that the points of the hooks don’t overlap, then you should be fine.

Best of luck.. I often times do replace the hooks on my cranks and will often upgrade in size. On some baits that is fine. On others it doesn’t work out so well, some you only can replace the front hook. Good luck
