boat problems?

rippenlips

Question

I have a 05 lund explorer and needed to verify something. I have three holes on the back of the boat. The center one is for main plug and another one with a screen on it. Im assuming this is for the pump to pump water into the live wells and another one left of the main plug. Is this one to drain the livewells? I took it out for the first time and tried turning the airrater on and nothign is happening. I checked the fuses and they are fine any help would be appreciated. I tested the bildge and that does blow air out so that seems to be working fine.

Have you checked to see if the inlet valves for the livewells are open. Each tank has the ability open or shut the valve down. They are probably white and will close turning clockwise and open turning counter clockwise.

Sometimes the livewell pumps need priming. To do this you need to turn the pump on then back up, sometimes you need to go quite fast to force the water up in there. Also check to see if there is a flow control valve at the livewell end & make sure it is open. I have a Tyee that also has a switch for recirculating or fresh water pick up that I can switch back and forth to get the pump primed to start pulling water up. Hope this helps.

What I'm guessing is happening is either the fill valve inside the livewell (stick your head inside the compartment and look for a nozzle or plastic fitting inside the top of your livewell) is still tight, or as someone else mentioned it's air locked. If it's the fill valve inside unscrew it slightly - that's what regulates the flow of water from the pump to your livewell.

I have a 02 Lund Pro-V that gives me the same grief almost every time out!

The problem is that the pumps are not priming or get air locked because they are located away from the transon and are also raised up a couple of inches above the inlet level.

I finally replaced the factory pumps with newer cartridge type pumps. That way all I have to do is crack the replacement cartridge open a couple of seconds and the pumps are primed again. A real pain! frown.gif But solved my priming problems.

I can't believe Lund boats still have that problem! confused.gif
