Coon and Skunk Trapping

Recommended Posts

There is no closed season on skunks and coons. I figure for every one that I get now, its 5 less in the fall, plus it helps the nesting ducks and pheasants. I use tuna in my live trap, or fish carcasses if I have them.

Coon season is closed, I guess skunks are fair game. Go out and get an ADC permit, then trap away. I am all for getting rid of them, don't get me wrong. I just don't want to see any bad trapping publicitiy, that is the last thing we need. I did my part this year with over 100 fox killed in prime waterfowl nesting areas smile.gif

If I have Skunk's, I trape them any time I want. I know what you mean by fallowing the law, but Skunks I do not like. Out at my old farm they are a real problem. I have gotten 13 already from under all the old buildings that are vacant. I know they do a number on the bird eggs, so the state trapper is helping out in my area. They havn't done any of that for years and it shows because the numbers of the black and white guys are realy up. Seems there are a good number of them that have Rabies to. CAJ

I stand corrected. I always thought it was open season on coons. They're tough on bird nests, I had three coons last year that climbed my martin house pole and started eating eggs and young ones. Out of 10 nests, only one survived before I eliminated the problem. Think seriously about putting coon guards on your bird houses, that goes for wood duck houses, bluebird houses, and any other house on a pole that you don't want ravaged by coons.
