Whats your take on this? Some people (media) are saying it's ugly but I think they look just like the street cars, which is what NASCAR used to look like. While I don't know if I like the rear wing or not (kind of reminds me of a civic with a diarrhea sounding exhaust) I do like the idea of them being handed out at the race track by NASCAR (just like the restricter plates) to reduce possibility of cheating in this area. The plus side of this is that there will be air behind the car so a car behind dosen't get tight.

I agree. The car looks pretty good, BUT GIT RID OF THE WING. It is starting to smell like rice burning. Sitck w/ the present spoiler. But it does seem like a pretty good car according to the speeds they had. So we just have to wait and see what they decide.

The wing has got to go.

No "Stock" car out there today with a wing that I can think of.

Don't most new "sports" cars have a wing now days?? I guess if I had to choose between a wing and being able to pass or a lip spoiler and an "aero push" condition, I'd take the wing.

Charger, Stratus, Neon, Cobalt, Impala, Malibu, Mustang and Focus all have a wing either standard or as part of an option package. Only the Monte SS has a lip spoiler. That's just the cars from Dodge, Chevrolet and Ford, not counting the other makes in the line or getting to the imports.

I didn't realize that the wing was available on so many cars until I did a little looking on the internet. Maybe the wing is the way to go??

This might have something to do with it.

2.4-liter turbocharged 16-valve double overhead camshaft (DOHC) engine

230 horsepower

250 lb-ft of torque

Zero to 60 in under 6 seconds

I guess they go like heck but it's still a Neon. Maybe if I was 18 it would make sense.

They've said that by replacing the spoiler with a wing, NASCAR will issue the wing at every race.....like the restrictor plate or shocks. This way each one is identical and designed to have a certain effect on the race car for that particular track.

Why don't they just issue standard cars like the IROC series and get it over with because that's all this is going to boil down to eventually which is a shame.

I'm not a fan of wings generally, but on the other hand, its not like they are disrespecting old school NASCAR. Remember the ORIGINAL Daytonas and the Road Runners/Super Birds with the BIG wing...

The COT needs work and I am very opposed to a common car, let them keep the noses and rears to at least somewhat resemble the cars on the street. If you take away the Chevy vs. Ford battle, NASCAR loses a lot of interest!

Yes, they definitely need to keep the Chevy/Ford/Dodge appearance. Win on Sunday, sell on Monday. Unfortunately it's becoming more like IROC all the time and I'm afraid it's just going to get worse.

It is getting to be more and more like IROC. All this "making the field equal" junk does is make for bigger wrecks. The same teams will be up front it just lets the lesser teams stay on the lead lap in a bigger pack.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it but dosen't it seem like Toyota would be the one to benifit the most? Since they don't have all those years of data that say DEI or whoever does to manipulate the bodies to what the driver/track wants this seems like an easy place to start.

Sure, during the first two years they will be using both the new and old cars at different tracks and Toyota will be at a dissadvantage there (nobody wants them to be competitive out of the box anyway) but when NASCAR goes to the COT 100% Toyota will be starting off at the same place as the long running Chevy and Ford teams. Actually, they will be ahead of the game because their engine is 30 years newer in design.

I know I kind of made this sound like a consperiacy theory (maybe it is and maybe it isn't) but that really wasn't my intention. I don't think any of the long time fans of racing like this common template junk but the new fans of crashing want the big packs and don't really care who wins, or if they have paid their dues to earn it.

I thought the same thing, but didn't want to jump on my Sony Box again! It all seems so convenient for Toyota! Dodge, Ford, & Chevy can toss their decades of notes, bodies, frames and start from ground zero again. Then it is going to come down to engineering, money, and more money. Which Toyota has plenty of both!

Dam it, I'm up on my box again!
