Reef Hawg kits?

Recommended Posts

Anyone buy these Reef Hawg kits from Rollie and Helen's? I bought two a month ago, painted them and tried to put them together. I'm having a problem with the pins that hold the hooks. Exactly how do you get those pins into the wood? I've tried using a hammer and all I did was bend the pins. confused.gif Any suggestions? frown.gif

Reef hawgs junk? That is the first time i have ever heard that. I'm suprised.

Lonewolf, do a search for Fudally Tackle in google they have a HSOforum and I'm positve you could get an email addy off there. They are located up 35 in Sandstone I think. I bought some lures from them a few years ago and the guys were very helpful and always responded in a timely manner.

Common Sense!? Have you been drinking this morning? shocked.gifgrin.gif

As I sit at my desk I'm looking at the pictures of my bigger fish... one of wich is a 49" caught on a black/white Reef Hawg.

As far as the kits I couldn't tell you on that, Iv'e never used the kit.

If there are no pre-drilled holes, you will need to make your own. Use a bit the same size as pins or a little smaller. After the holes are drilled, tap the pins through the holes. Make a 90 degree bend at the end of the pin, now just pound it into the wood. Now just put a little epoxy in the hole and your done. Hope it all makes sense.

Here are some pictures to help.

I've heard the Fudally folks have a custom press for getting those pin ends flush/into the lure. What I do is drill a small hole at about a 45 degree angle to the original hole and use screw eyes - the pins are a royal pain in the arse and a great way to mess your paint job up. The pre-drilling is needed as that hard maple makes it real easy to twist off a standard .072 screw eye smirk.gif Although I haven't tried it, the above post looks like a great fix as well.
