New fish finder

bullheadslayer

Question

I need to replace my old Hummybird with a new unit. I have 3 kids under 12yrs old and a Boss/Banker(Wife) that don't have a lot of backside stamina for all day walleye chasing and trying to feed and heat the gang is getting tougher by the day so I'm looking for advice on a decent unit for under $300. I mostly fish water around Alex to Fergus area and this will go into an older crestliner so cheap and easy is what im looking for.

If you decide to take a look at the Fishmark 480 and the Lowrance X125, you'll discover they are almost the identical unit. Basically, the only difference is the peak to peak power.

The X125 also has the better more durable grey locking plugs and the Fishmark 480 has the standard black plug. If you are going to take the unit on and off alot go with the X125, the plugs will last much longer.

Do either of these units display water temp?

How about boat speed (probably not I'm guessing)?

What model would a guy need to look at if he was just interested in graph, water temp., & boat speed and how much are we talking?

Thanks...I know I could look all this stuff up online...but you guys are way faster than me trying to figure out what the heck I'm looking for.

I believe they do temp but you have to buy the seperate speed wheel to attach (got mine at Cabelas). I think it was like $50 - 60 bucks. But if you have a hh GPS the speed is much more accurate on it so do not buy the speed sensor for the FF. You can also go on Lowrances HSOforum and try specific units out(simulator).

Thanks...I have a handheld GPS that I currently use...but I was thinking of buying a new graph and just wanted to know if that's an option. Sounds like I should keep doing what I'm doing...maybe I'll buy a little mount for the GPS...I assume they have those. Thanks.
