Summerizing my truck?

LaVoi

Question

Question for all of you, I will be working for three months this summer in Alaska, which means the truck will sit in the garage for that time. Is there anything that I should do to it before putting it away for the summer. Also what would be the best preventative measure from keeping mice out from under the hood and whatnot. Would having someone start it for me once a week do the trick? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Make sure you let the winter air out of the tires and replace it with summer air! hehehe grin.gif

Our trucks sit idle all winter, many are outside during this time. Make sure you do an oil change, the battery is up, stabil or sea foam run therough the fuel system. Leaving the hood open will probably help with the rodents, along with a a little mouse poison, someone starting it every couple days/week wouldn't hurt, but wouldn't be required. Good Luck in Alaska

Good Luck!

Mothballs- I'd put some under the hood and some on the ground around it, I used to have a convertable that was always in storage and the mice seemed pretty atracted to it, don't put any mothballs in the interior, it will take forever to get rid of the sickening smell, Ive heard dryer sheets keep the little devels out of the interior.

Labs4me summed it up pretty good. Change the oil and stabalize the fuel. The only thing I would add is to have someone start and drive it for around 30 minutes at least once a month. This will do two things, recharge the battery and boil off any condensation that has accumulated in the engine. Three months is not that long of time and would more than likely be fine without doing this!!

Will this be your first time in the land of the midnight sun? The best thing is fishing in july at 3:00 in the morning wearing sunglasses!!!

Thanks for the help all. Yes this will be my first time up in the last frontier and can't wait. I will be a deckhand on a sportfishing outfit out of Sitka. Will be a change from chasing walleyes on a 700 acre lake to exploring the ocean in search of those huge halibut. Hopefully it doesn't take long to get my sea legs under me.
