disposing of old propane tanks

beer batter

Question

A friend of mine in the Alexandria area is looking to get rid of some 20 and 30 lb. propane tanks with the old valve type.

Anyone know where one can dump these? I was surprised to learn the places that refill propane tanks weren't required to take them.

Many suppliers take them. There's a place in Sauk Rapids where I occassionally fill up that has a pile going. You might also try a metal recycling place. Shouldn't be a big deal if you remove the valves first.

Take them out in the country and use them to sight in your deer rifle at 200 yards....just to see what happens....Just kidding of course. Good question...I have one I'd like to get rid of too.

I think you can still trade in the old ones at Wally World (to get the new type). They charge you a little extra but it is very reasonable! I have not checked in awhile but I was able to do it this Winter, it might be worth looking into!

Paint the top 1/2 of them red and use 'em for REALLY BIG pike bobbers! LOL!!!!
I'd REALLY like to be a part of the 200 yard idea, but to make the required sparks, you need semi-armor piercing rounds or if you're closer and LUCKY, tracer rounds. Lead don't spark. You're lucky if a FMJ does the job. Keep your head down!!!

I had a couple old ones from up north I took home to dispose of. One wasn't quite empty so I opened the valve up in my backyard. A neighbor smelled the gas and called the fire dept. Soon they were at my door. Good thing the wife wasn't home, I'd never here the end of it.
