how much does that crappie weigh.?

a 12 inch crappie weighs about 1 lb.

a 10 inch crappie about .62 lbs or 10 oz.

the formula is. length x 3/ 1600.

12x12x12/1600= 1.08 lbs..close enough.

9x9x9/1600=.45 lbs about half pound.

wink.gif close enough to estimate your fish weight.

You could be right.

Here's a few more...

14" crappie 14x14x14/1600 = 1.7lbs

(I think the formula doesn't work for a 14" crappie. My URL crappies that I weighed were 1 pound, 7 ounces give or take an ounce. Thats almost a quarter pound off which is a lot for a panfish)

15" crappie 15x15x15/1600 = 2.10lbs

(Once again, I think that is a little heavy but closer than the formula for a 14". A 15" should be right around the 2lb mark if not a tad under. You have to have an over 15" to be an honest 2lbs)

All in all, not too bad and definitely a good way to estimate your weight without a scale. And heck, maybe my scale is off a little. grin.gif

Seems to be close. I caught 15 1/2 and it weighed 2lb1oz. Today I got in to some white crappies that went 12-14 havent got a clue what they would weigh out at. They might weigh close to the same as a black crappie. They are a lot longer but not as tall, but are much thicker. I've never really noticed the difference since never really got it the whites this much. I do know that those whites fight much better than the blacks, a 12-13in white fights like a 15-16 black.

yo CT,

what about all the other factors?

what if that 12" crappie was the "GUARDIAN" fish?

what if that 12" crappie came out of a hole that PCG drilled with a 6" hand held lazer?

and if PCG did catch it, then did he walk to work that day or carry his lunch that day?

seems like all these factors might make some difference when put into the equation, then again maybe not. grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

and what if they came in on waxies or maggots?

just food for thought. cool.gif

and what about the redlake factor, that makes it even bigger. wink.gifwink.gif

I have a Catch and Release card that has the following estimated weight for your crappies.

inches weight

8----------- .4

9----------- .6

10---------- .8

11-------- 1.0

12-------- 1.2

13-------- 1.4

14-------- 1.6

15-------- 1.9

16-------- 2.2

17-------- 2.5

18-------- 2.8

This is a estimate, in the spring the bigger ones are going to add a little weight with eggs

I know a lot of people who have 13-inchers on their walls, and they look very nice.

I guess it all depends on how much you fish and what you set your goals at. For some people it might be 13-inches, for others it might be 16-inches.

I think that 17-inches is pushing the extreme end of things. I know a lot of people who target crappies all year-long and never see a 16-inch fish within a 5 year time-span.

I've seen fish anywhere from about 12-inches all the way to 19-inches on the wall, all of which look great!

One of the best crappie mounts I've seen was of a set of four 12-13 inch crappies inside of a coffee table. It was done in a natural setting and what a piece of work that was!

A 15-inch crappie is a nice fish anywhere in Minnesota. A 16-inch fish is definitely a trophy. And anything 17-inches or bigger should be considered a fish of a lifetime for the average angler in Minnesota.

I personallly think that 14-15 inch crappies look the best on the wall (your typical Red Lake fish).

With replicas nowadays, they came make just about any size fish look incredible and last just about forever!

Thanks Matt I myself in no way a crappie man but i have mistakeingly caught a couple fifteens and my wife has also caught a 15 shes got a nice pic so maybe that one will be a replica someday. (now only if i can convince her that that is a nice b-day present)From the crappie nuts I know they say they would only mount a 17 but like ya say that is a fish of a lifetime. thanks for the headsup.

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
    • Chef boyardee pizza from the box!
