Really poor fishing

It seems like all the lakes around my area did not produce like usual this winter. Everybody I talk to says that they didnt have any luck all winter long. I've caught only about 20 fish all winter and I've definately put my time in. Anybody else find this going on in there area?

Really?? WOw, I fish the metro area a lot as well as northern Minnesota, and I have been doing great this year... I dont notice a change at all in fishing... THe only change I noticed this winter was that the ice around the Metro area, made driving on the lake quite difficult... But if you have a snow mobile, everything should be okay...... I actually found fishing to be better this year, compared to other years, due to less fisherman out on the lakes.... More fish for me to catch....

I second that notion that the fishing was poor this year - starting in late summer till now. Maybe I wasn't on the right lake at the right time, etc. ... but many of those I talk to in Grand Rapids say the same thing. It wasn't a good year.

I have had a pretty amazing year as well.

With panfish, the bite has been very light this winter and if you haven't switched to a finesse approach (small lures & spring bobber), you are missing all of your fish. You are marking fish on your flasher but they aren't pulling a bobber down, got to switch to a spring bobber rod, 2lb line, and small lures.

The only lake I really, really struggled on was Lake Winnibigoshish during the I.C.E. Series. The perch were very tight lipped. Even Upper Red produced for me last weekend.

It is so much that the fish aren't biting as I haven't had the time to get out this winter!

I'm not saying I have had a bad year on the ice. Quite frankly everytime I've been on the ice, I've caught fish. YES, I have had to work for them but have been happy with my results! Just doing the small things on the ice and catching a fish this year has been more rewarding then popping holes and trying to catch lots of fish this year!

I'm trying to edgumacate meself smile.gif

I'm with Brandon on this one. Thie winter's been very good for edgumacation.

There have been a couple of slow days, but for the most part I've been very happy with the fishing. I've had to adjust my style and presentation, and move around alot more than I had in previous years, but I'm still finding fish.

There have definitely been some downtimes, but overall this winter season has been very good to me. I caught a big eye on mille lacs early on, and a 16" perch and a 15" crappie not long after. It did seem like the walleye and panfish bite slowed down in our area toward the middle of January, but I can happily say that I haven't had to fish for for either since trout opened, they've been keeping me plenty busy over the last month or so grin.gif.

Strange year for me too - the fishing for me was terribly slow early, but has picked up, especially for crappie & northern, in the past couple of weeks. Last weekend had my best northern ice fishing day ever in the metro - six weeks ago I couldn't have caught a northern or walleye with a stick of dynamite!

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
    • Chef boyardee pizza from the box!
