anyone going to go crow hunting? I cant wait to get out the to try my new call! Im also ready to get back out side winter is getting long!

I have also been thinking about this along side of bowfishing is the next fun thing to come along....nice way to touch up the skills and just plain fun when you get them to commit to the call like babys to candy...

This may be a dumb question, But what do you guys do with the crows after you shoot them?

we usually end up fighting over them since they are so tasty and each person in the hunting party generally wants as many as he can stuff into his respective freezer!

in all seriousness, we chuck the dirty things into the weeds! NOBODY kills a crow with the intention of eating it--they are shot to save eggs and chicks in the spring. They also provide some good shooting practice and a little excitement as they flock to the 2 dekes and an ecaller!

I bought some decoys and a couple calls last year, but I've never gone. I always thought this would be a good way to get my kid some practice shooting at passing birds.

In my back yard, its five acres of pine trees...about 200 of them nest there every year ....I would never eat a crow with all the diseases that are out there now, heck make sure to wash my hands rite after i touch them

To clarify, NOBODY means the vast majority of people...I realize there are some individuals out there that get a kick out of being "unique" and "wowing" their friends by eating a crow or a coot or a starling...but what is the point? Mud is still mud, seasonings or not. Sorry to rain on your parade.

We've had crows around all year, Looking for march to get here to shoot a few. We have been getting rid of a few "doing damage" and some that were "about to do damage", but we're looking forward to decoying. My son bought some new decoys with his fleet farm gift card he got for his b-day. He's really excited, target practicing nearly every day.

Side note for you guys that have kids that shoot a lot, Check their pockets for ammo before they head to school, They really get excited if something like that shows up in school. Used to be that most of the boys in school had .22 ammo in their pockets and no one thought anything of it. Not anymore.

Crow hunting is actually one of my favorite things to do in the early spring inbetween seasons. Have any of you heard of Crow Hunting Tournaments??? be fun to get a bunch of guys together. And set up a Time Frame and Boundaries... IE Ottertail County. Would anyone be intersted in participating in something like this. have like a 2 man team and $30 entry fee. Depending on how many teams pay out to top 3 teams...Lets give this some serious thought

You know that would be a pretty cool idea...depends on wat the rules are...as long as theres no age limit cuz im 15, count me in, i think i could whip a team up mighty quick...Im ready to get out thats for sure got a little cabin fever...maybe if we post this in the ottertail forum we'll get a little better idea if this would fly...?

I've hunted in a tournament the last two years in July. I'm sure there are plenty around, but this one in particular is based in cushing, mn. It's a lot of fun and I've been getting better each year. Teams of up to 3. We shot 23 last year, the winning team had over 60 I think. I've got a ways to go.

Nothing quite like an entire hayfield full of crows gettin' up and comin' at ya when you turn on the call. Talk about flock shootin'!

Is it legal to hunt in the right of ways on gravel roads, was thinking of driving around and then setting up for awhile in the right of ways, 15 mins or so, a ways from the vehical, using an electric caller.

Would painting 20 oz pop bottles work for a couple decoys, also how many would you use, 5 or 6?

Thinkink of decoys more for around a pasture area that we have a goose pit dug in.

I cant imagine why the pop bottles wouldnt work for this time of the year, but then again im no expert on the crows im learning just as much as i can, depends on the numbers of crows your seeing around your area this early for what im seeing rite now for flocks i'll see max of 3 in a flock so id put out about 2...cant hurt to get out and try...not sure about the gravel roads question

Does MN actually have a crow season? If so when does it start? I always thought the only way you could shoot them is if they were doing or "about" to cause damage.

Yes MN has a crow season....actually 2 of them. The First season starts March 1st and goes thru March 31st...The 2nd seasone....now dont quote me ....but i believe something like July 1st thru oct. 31st. Dont quote me on this....just go to the DNR site..they have all of the info you need.

There's two seasons in MN. The dates this year are 3/1/06 to 3/31/06 and 7/15/06 to 10/15/06. Outside of these dates the "doing or about to do damage" applies. I'd say that pretty much makes it open season year round.

I have a mouth rabbit distress (SP) call. Could I use that for crows and will it work???
