Fishin Beast Posted February 14, 2006 Share Posted February 14, 2006 Keep the 12-14 inchers out of colder water and you shouldn't have a problem.I dont keep bass, usually enough sunfish and crappies around. But if I needed a meal and that was all that was around I would take one or 2, and only if that lake had a larger percentage of smaller fish. Whopper Stopper Posted February 14, 2006 Share Posted February 14, 2006 Bass taste like they smell. In summer your hands smell like Bass for a day after you are done fishing (man I love that). If you want to eat some and you want to have them taste good here is a trick, soak them in milk. If you leave them in milk overnight all the smell and bass taste is gone ( works on Northern also). tacklebox7FF Posted March 24, 2006 Share Posted March 24, 2006 I catch some bass and keep usually the smaller ones around 2 pounds or so... Then scale them so the skin is still on them and fillet the bass.. then put them in a grill basket and cover fillets with a mixture of butter and lemon juice.. sprinkle some lemmonpepper and some Joe Bucher Fish seasoning or any other fish seasoning you want to trow on it.... cook the fillets on the skin side till the skin turns dark and flip the flat basket over and cook or just get some brown grill marks on the fillets.. it usually takes like 6-8 minutes on both sides.... but keep adding a little butter and lemon juice to the open side of the fillet...The bass when done flakes right off the skin and pretty dang good... primetime49 Posted March 26, 2006 Share Posted March 26, 2006 Growing up at a lake where every kind of fish known to man swam in we had to learn how to feed or eat our resort patrons fresh catch.often bass was deboned lets say 4-6 1to3 lbs. fish,and in a camp fry pan we would i lbs. butter and about i can cheap beer .this is going to sound strange but about the time the liquid turns to sauce you put in about half bottle ketchup take off heat let it coolas you mix it and serve it like barbecues on bread or buns,years ago many people ate all their bass at our place but i never really liked it unless it was done like this or grilled.
