Electronics/locaters

I tend to go crazy with my electronics. I currently have a 110c Lowrance on the counsel and a X19c on the bow. I love both of them lots of buttons beeps and dummy proof stuff even I can't screw up. They are pretty spendy units that don't really do much better then some of the better priced stuff. I just opt for some of the features they have.

If you can find one the best unit I ever had was a X-15 Lowrance black and white. This thing was simple always worked and always accurate. Plus I think I could see the black and white better then the color on sunny days. It was still on my boat last year until it got swiped.

Something to look at if you are just getting into electronics is getting just a plain depth unit for the boat and a hand held GPS for mapping. I have a H20c handheld and this thing is awesome. Plus you can use it year round, ice fishing, hunting, driving and open water. A combo unit it is pretty much a waste in the winter unless you want to mount that big thing to the dash of your truck or on the handle bars of a wheeeler.

I would also recomend Lowrance. Check out the 332c not sure of the price of them. I use a handheld, (Magellian), mouted on a ram mount on the dash. I hope to purchase a global map 3500 before open water is here.

We use the 2003 X-15's on counsoul.

2005 X-17s on bow.

All hooked into to GPS for many reasons but bow mounts keep me on loactions easy so I can fish some also and help clients more with out drifting all over and away from areas fishy like to be.

X-85 built into dash for back up and LARGE NUMBER READING!

Something goes kaput, fast turn around time for me from Doug at his shop in Fridly.

Knowing what yer fishen and looking at can only help in you attempt to rip some face.

Plus it is fun to learn what is on da bottom and everything inbetween.

I have a global map 3000 lowrance on the bow with lakemaster chip , and a fish mark 320 eagle built into the bow of my stratos because i wasnt smart enough to buy a combo in one unit to begin with. Then an LMS 480 this year (that one is combo) on the dash. Vexilar flasher also in the dash.

My only real recommendation is to buy the highest power sonar you can afford. After having cheap ones (still have a fairly cheap one on the bow but i'm only looking for weedlines) getting something with 2400 to 4000 watts of power makes all the difference in the world.

I go the exact opposite of everyone else. I have a Zercom flasher on the bow and Vexilar on the stern.

Some will tell you that they need the history of a LCD. Unless you have attention defecit disorder, I don't see the need.

To be honest with you two of the best musky fishermen I know run flashers and I have learned more about lake structure and weed patterns from them guys and their flashers then my color graphs have ever taught me. wink.gif

Once you learn how to tell what the flasher is telling you, it is pretty cool.

There is a learning curve though.

If you ice fish, spend a day concentrating on what your flasher is telling you about where you are fishing. Make sure to find rock, gravel, mud, silt and weeds. Finding that stuff in the winter is easy and transferring that "education" to summer fishing works if you try.

Nothing I mean nothing beats skin diveing. grin.gif

No matter who is selling what, if you know what your fishing and where the food things the fish yer hunting live you will do good.

Flasher or graph both good.

More one knows about what one uses, the more you can learn.

But I say nothing beats a good dip.

I bought a Lowrance LCX 15MT off of hsolist last year. With the unit and the GPS antenna I have $460 into it. I really like the unit with the bigger display. I have a LakeMaster chip in it which is really nice for fishing Vermillion. It has 3 foot contours for the lake. I think they are coming out with a newer version with 1 foot contours of the lake. I am not sure but they may even have waypoints marked for the places Tom could be doing his recon dives grin.gif.

If I could get whatever I wanted I would go with a LCX 25C for the driver and a LMS 334C for my bow mount (still not going as crazy as Jon grin.gif). The 334 looks nice because it has a built in antenna.
