Jiffy auger problem

Gadgetman

Question

My older Jiffy model 30 has been working fine all year, never had any troubles in the past either. However, lately it starts right off but when i get about 6" into the ice it bogs down like its not getting enough gas and kills. I can get it to run if I leave the choke on full, but obviously that isnt right. I would like to remedy this situation before it leaves me on the lake with no way to drill a hole. It has fresh gas in it and I always run seafoam in all my small engines. Ideas anyone?

Sounds like you are drawing air in somewhere. Check the tightness of the bolts holding the carb to the engine. If they are tight, try running it and spraying a little carb cleaner around where the gasket mates the carb to engine to see if it is drawing in air (the rpm's should spike). Check to see if the vacuum line from the engine to the carb isn't cracked or loose. These are some simple tests that I would try first. Let us know what happens wink.gif.
