Courthouse Report: 1/21/2006

I had some success on Thursday, landing 4 rainbows. Friday morning two of us managed 3 fish. The pan fried rainbow dinner was awesome. Tried a new cleaning method. You pull the backbone and the rib bones out at the same time. Looks ugly when you are done but sure tastes fine.

Tuesday they put in 160 Brookies that weighed 1.5 pounds.

While we were there on Friday, West Metro Fisheries and a couple of DNR boys from Lanesboro, put in 138, 4 to 8 pound,

four year old brood browns. These had beautiful markings!

They looked as if each had been painted.

No one, around the pond, has heard of any of the brookies or browns being caught as of 11:00am Saturday.

Today, two people - 1 trout.

Fished 9'to 24'of H2O... 3' to 5' down.

We used green jigs with two waxies.

We fished some where the two points are, by the jail and toward the other end. Seemed some guys were doing ok out in the middle of the main body. I saw several people using salmon eggs on a tiny hook. They left it sit and did not jiggle and they caught fish.

No reports this week from the pond. Plan on trying it again on Thurs or Friday.

Stay away from the groups.

finsandfeathers,

That is the same thing I experienced on Saturday. Not sure if the markings are the new fish just cruising or what.

It seemed that they were gone too fast to even move the bait to that level. Sure were not many that came in to look. Did you get some lookers?

Were many fish taken by anyone else?

Here of any of the big girls (browns) being caught?

i had a couple of lookers other then that they were gone just as fast as they showed up

one guy said that one person had taken 4 rainbows.

what i saw was one or nothing at all, no browns

if it works out for me iam gonna try on sunday to lower the lake by catching one of those browns.

good luck

I live a stones throw away from the pond and have only fished it once with no success.

Do the fish typically roam through out the lake, or do they hold in certain areas at different time of the day?

Basically is it worth "trolling" holes or try to attract them to a few holes?

I was thinking of giving it a try sometime this week if I get a short day at work.

I've been wanting to fish Courthouse during the day, just wondering if it's alright to park over there before 4:30 PM on weekdays. There is a sign stating that the parking lot is only for employees till 4:30 PM. Are they pretty strict about people parking early in the morning who want to fish there? Where does everybody park during the week days that want to fish? Thanks.

There hasn't been any hassels over us parking in either lot.

Just give'm room and park as far from the courthouse,in the lot, as you can. I was wondering the same, especially on opener, but everything seemed smooth. There is a lot of room during the week.

Almost,

I was there when they put in the browns. I saw them. Not surprised the CO not hearing about it.

There was two guys from West Metro and the two guys from Lanesboro who brought the trout from the hatchery.

Call West Metro Fisheries (DNR) in Eden Prarie. They have the info for their area but not for any others.

These guys dumped the browns in the same hole..they dumped the brookies in.

Still have not heard of any of these fish being taken. I am hoping they survived.

LOL

A guy could get into trouble even with a figure of speech.

I did make out sunday for a few hours.

I was with a buddy in a Frabil just to the east of the small bay.

I was kind of looking out for you Sifty. Were you in the bay?

We had a lot of fish move through the area and I got hit three time but no hook ups.

It was fun watching these fish come through on the Marcum. They would chase up, then down and once in awhile take a smack. Very cool.

I'll be giving that a try again!

Hey Dennis, I'm doing good. Mostly chasing crappies & pike so far. Maybe I'll see you up on Horseshoe this winter.

My favorite way to catch winter trout is to sight fish shallow water away from the crowds. You have to be patient & quiet but the trout are just roaming & eventually they'll come through. Setting up near some type of structure can help too if you can find it - flooded timber, points or even a dock like Red mentioned. I usually cut 2-3 holes & darken the house as much as possible for better viewing. Sight fishing can be a little tough on the back though. A white Shrimpo can be deadly! They can't resist that tail action - Vern

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
