Aqua-vu Scout

I would like to vent a little bit on my new purchase. I recently bought the aqua-vu scout underwater camera. I'll start off by saying that this piece of equipment (while working) is the best thing you could have for ice fishing. Due to the light bites from the majority of fish during the winter, it's no longer about not feeling the bite, as you can see it and set the hook without wondering. I took this camera out on the ice twice with it working great. The third time I took it out, the camera decided to let water leak inside. Now whenever i take the camera in sub 70 degree weather or water it fogs right up. I will be taking it back for a refund, but thought I would let everybody know that if you are going to be purchasing one of these be ready for an accident as I have heard of many with them.

I can relate, I had bought a Quad 360 Aqua vu and used it once the second time out one camera had leaked water and was shot. so took back and got another one a couple of days ago. tested it out in my fish tank for a couple of seconds. and then had to run down to Kansas city over night. Just turned it on a few minutes ago and have same exact problem I had with the one I took back. Back to the store one more time. at least with the quad if your out fishing and one camera goes out you have three more to back you up. But I want all four to work, thats what I payed for. mad.gif

I have had no bad luck with mine after a few years and have had very good luck with it.I would bet that Nature Vision will take care of any warranty problems that a person might have.I personally think that the Scout is a great unit.

Well... i want to buy an aqua view but im not sure. I have a vexilar and was wondering if it would be a good/intellectual purchase. I think they are neat and was wondering a few things. DOes the view cause any interference? and how well does that little light on them work? hit me back with any useful info

My marcum croaked on me after 3 good years of use. In the last month, I've gone through 4 aqua vu's. Had a scout for one day and the camera leaked. Traded up for a Z-50 and that worked for 1 month, then it quit working. Traded that for another Z-50 which was defective right out of the box. box. Now I'm on my third Z-50. I may just have had a small run of bad luck, but I think they may have a few issues with quality control. I really like the camera.

I'm not sure on the interference question itself because I use the camera solely as my fish finder. As to the light on it I would not suggest the Scout if you are going to do alot of night fishing. Other cameras are supposed to have good lights for night fishing. I heard the Quad is one of those but I'm not for sure on it.

i just bought a scout this year and my first one was bad right out of the box, but the 2nd one is working great, i hope that there isnt any issues so far so good, as for interference, i use mine with my vex and have not had any problems, i even put it down the same hole sometimes and didnt have a problem grin.gif

Sorry to hear about the issue you are having. I am on my second season with the Scout and am very pleased.

I do have concerns about mine failing but from reading post day in and day out on here I do not believe there is a model out there of any brand that has not had this failure at one time or another.

I believe it is a very good tool for its intended purpose. It is an entry level unit that has become more mainstream for the masses.

If mine does fail I would not hesitate to buy the same model again.

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
    • Chef boyardee pizza from the box!
